Officer elections
May is the month that Aerie and Auxiliary members elect their officers
for the upcoming year. The Auxiliary candidates all are non
contested so no need for an election. This year Aerie has two contested
positions having three candidates for two Trustees positions (Klaus
True, Scott Holman and Kevin O’Leary) and two candidates for Chaplain
position (Dottie Arsenault and Alex
Acosta)
The election will take place Wednesday May 8th (9 am to 6 pm
in the Social Room).
From our Worthy President’s desk
I am so proud to be
an Eagle and to recognize the hard work that has come out of this club.
I look forward to this next year in serving you. I appreciate those
members that have chaired committees with distinction. We are a
community of helpers. We have raised money for many organizations both
Nationally and importantly, locally. Our neighbors were given
trials and we supported them. We highlight our club dedicated to People
Helping People, our motto, our pride. I am honored to be your Worthy
President and I want you to know I am here for suggestions and concerns.
I hope you help this Aerie grow in membership and in continuing our
history of giving.
May 4th
is Child Advocacy Day.
Bring your kids for Touch a
truck, games and contests. Large Chinese auction , and raffles and so
much more. Support local youth groups and organizations. 10-3 for event.
Touch a Truck is from 10-1pm
Meet our club’s employees
It’s always nice to
recognize the folks that work for us in making our club a pleasure to
visit. This month’s
selection goes to Barbara Allen from behind the bar.
Barb says “It’s pretty easy serving our delicious beverages to
all the nice people here because I enjoy doing that.
Having worked in the serving business, being a lunch lady at RSU
10 for 27 years, it just comes natural to me to please people and make
sure they are happy. I
started working here 19 years ago in the Bingo Hall as bartender for the
“Friday Night Country Jam” along with working weddings and other special
events. When an opening for
bartender in the Social Room came up for alternating week-end days I
shared that shift till I started the position I now have as bartender
for the Friday and Saturday night rotation.”
Stop in and say Hello to Barb and let her know what a great job
she is doing.
Spirit of an Eagle
We have members who
once you meet them you cannot forget them. Through plain kindness and a
sweetness that pushes smiles onto your face, Mickey Sousa certainly
fills this bill. She has been a past Auxiliary officer including
being a Madam President. She took on running the Texas Hold'em
Tournament. She did this until falling ill. She has not been able
to do what she has done in the past. However she is a tough lady, she is
enthusiastic about our events and will cook (and win) for Eat Around the
World, donated to raffles and auctions, and can still be a welcoming
smile at Craft Circle.
Queen of Hearts
Please note that this version
of the Queen of Hearts has reached the threshold of $5000.00 and
and will remain that till she’s found. Future weekly payouts for name
drawn will be determined by the number of tickets sold each week, not
card value. Please check the rules posted at the club or on our
website. The name drawn last week got rewarded $415.00 for being the
ticket drawn and being present. The 50/50s also have been doing well.
Come try your luck, finding the Queen is $5000.00 and healthy rewards
for name just being drawn.
The Dart League
has been a steady fixture on Monday night. Players start around
6pm.contact Jim Chase fmi.
Games start at 6:30
and entry is $10.
The State Auxiliary
Convention will be hosted here in Rumford on May 25 & 26. On the evening
of the 25 will be a night at the Eagles Fair with Carnival food and
games. This event is open
to all starting at 5pm. All
proceeds go to Angel Flight New England. There are various Raffles going
on throughout the month. There will also be a paint & sip on the 17th
to benefit this also. On a personal note I would like to thank all who
have supported me this last year as local and state president
Fraternally, Marcia Surette,SMP
